Our Volunteers

Volunteers are a HUGE part of making Straitwatch such a success!
Our volunteers help us with all aspect of our program from answering the phone to assisting with our monitoring and education activities. We collect data about the activity occurring around marine mammals and we need help counting vessels during 1/2hr intervals, making sure we haven't missed any and monitoring their behaviours.

Recording all the data we collect is an important part of our volunteers responsibilities. Our volunteers also help us with entering data into our computer, helping out at our presentations and community events and many other duties.

How to Volunteer
Straitwatch is a community-based program and therefore most of our volunteers come from the communities on northern Vancouver Island (Campbell River to Port Hardy). However, we do have a few opportunities for visiting volunteers to participate.

Anyone interested in volunteering in the Straitwatch program should send a resume and cover letter (with a brief description of why you want to participate in the Straitwatch program) to us at: volunteer@straitwatch.org

Accepted Volunteers
When accepted, volunteers will also need to see what items on the Straitwacth Volunteer Checklist they need to bring. We also have some useful information about the area and it's accomodations to help you have a great experience.
